Anticipated book "Iconic Figures" availa

Sat Nov 14, 2009, 2:54 PM
The fine art book, "Iconic Figures" by Sam Dobrow, printed and produced as fine art prints, is now available and can be previewed and purchased online. Fine art books are one of the most economical means of collecting art. The print quality of this book is of such high standards that pages could be cut out of the book and framed. An entire portfolio of exceptional quality prints can now be purchased and enjoyed in the format of a book at a cost that is less than the price of a single archival print.

Artist Statement

The female figure is a fascinating subject for the artist and photographer. Her soft, round features are magical. Light and shadow define the texture of her skin and sculpt the figure of flesh and muscle on her skeletal form. Through pose, posture, and expression she offers insight to her soul.

Beyond the physical beauty of these subjects is a person, a soul, an erotic being. The women in this book exude a sensual self awareness. They transcend their state of nudity radiating beauty from within.

As a fine art photographer, I take great care to bring dimensional form to the figures I photograph. I shape light to expose my subject with such realism that you can almost touch her. As a portrait photographer my attention focuses deeper. I seek to reveal the woman inside the figure, the woman behind the physical beauty. I capture the moment when she is truly alive in her skin.

This moment is hard to describe, it is something that just happens. It is a moment when the model and photographer are fully engaged in the shoot. Each seems to forget the other is there yet they are both working in synchronicity. Each knows what to do and it happens. Tension is in the air, her robe drops to the floor. She strikes a pose, looks through the lens, and touches the soul of the photographer. The beauty of a woman emerges, the shutter clicks, strobe lights illuminate, and the photographer captures it.

Iconic Figures is my vision of beauty. It is sensual, erotic, and primordial.

I lead a photography group which meets regularly in Roswell, GA for a friendly and competitive fashion photo shoot. We collaborate with Capricious (a high fashion European boutique), The Big Tease (a high-style hair salon) and various make-up artists to provide our models with high fashion looks for our photo shoots. Experienced models are encouraged to contact me for more information.

My photography dates back to high school where I processed B&W film and prints and mastered the zone system. Early works included artistic nude and fine art photography. In college my traditional thinking was challenged by the surrealism influence of Jerry Uelsmann at the University of Florida and guest lecturers including Robert Heineken from UCLA. I've also had the pleasure of learning from and studying under great photographers including David Alan Harvey (documentary), Elizabeth Opalenik (fine art), Perry Dilbeck (fine art documentary), William Albert Allard (documentary) and others.

My recent work involves glamour, fashion and documentary style photography shot in the studio and on location. I enjoy photographing people and telling a story with photographs. In the spirit of great portrait photographers Richard Avedon and Patrick Demarchelier, it is important for me to develop a rapport with my subject so I can capture a personal and intimate moment.

Capturing the image is only the first step in creating a unique work of art. Just as film photographers selected particular films, papers and development chemistry for their contrast or color characteristics, I finish my photographs with a distinctive style in the digital darkroom.

Hey, I am interested in the Photo club in Atlanta, GA. I live in Atlanta.
:iconsamdobrow:
The best "photo club" in Atlanta is the Atlanta Photographers Guild [link] it is an online Flickr group as well as a social group that meets to photograph aspiring models.

If you are more interested in photography as a fine art The Atlanta Photography Group [link] is a great organization.

Thanks you, I looked up the Flickr group and unfortunately I can't attend September 16 ( I am in class all afternoon until 10PM) Are there more users on Deviant that live in the Atlanta area?
:iconsamdobrow:
I have not met any dA photographers in Atlanta though I know there must be some.
